Past Tense

Past Tense yaitu kalimat yang membicarakan “masa lampau”. Ada 4 pembagian past tense :

1. Simple Past Tense : kegiatan yang terjadi pada masa lampau

(+)	S+V2+O
(-)	S+did+not+V1+O
(?)	Did+S+V+O

Ex :

(+) he went to school yesterday

(-) he didn’t go to school yesterday

(?) did he go to school yesterday?

2. Simple Past Continuous Tense : kegiatan yang terjadi pada masa lampau tapi sedang berlangsung

(+)	S+to be (was, were)+Ving+O
(-)	S+to be (was, were)+not+Ving+O
(?)	To be (was, were)+S+Ving+O

Ex :

(+) They were reading these comics at this time last night.

       I was sweeping the floor at the moment.

(-) They were not reading these comics at this time last night.

       I was not sweeping at the moment.

(?)  Were they reading these comics at this time last night?

       Was I sweeping the floor at the moment?

Note : was (she, he, it, I)

            Were (you, we, they)

3. Simple Past Perfect Tense : kegiatan yang sudah terjadi pada saat atau sebelum peristiwa terjadi di waktu lampau.

(+)	S+had+V3+O
(-)	S+had+not+V3+O
(?)	Had+S+V3

Ex

(+) Avenged Sevenfold had launched the new album after I entered State University Of Padang

(-) Avenged Sevenfold hadn’t launched the new album ater I entered State University Of Padang

(?) Had Avenged Sevenfold launched the new album after I entered State University Of Padang?

4. Simple Past Perfect Continuous Tense : kegiatan yang sudah terjadi di masa lampau dan masih terjadi pada saat peristiwa lain di waktu lampau terjadi

(+)	S+had+been+Ving
(-)	S+had+not+been+Ving
(?)	Had+S+been+Ving

Ex:

(+) I had been browsing internet when he slept.

(-) I had not been browsing internet when he slept.

(?) had I been browsing internet when he slept?
