Subjunctive

Subjunctive merupakan sebuah kalimat pengandaian atau harapan yang tidak sesuai dengan faktanya.

Kalimat subjunctive terbagi 2 :

A. Subjunctive Present merupakan sebuah kalimat pengandaian yang mengacu pada masa sekarang (present tense) tetapi tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan.

1. Subjunctive dengan menggunakan wish

S+Wish+(That)+S+V2

Ex I

I wish I could help you

Fakta : I can’t help you

Ex II

He wishes she knew him.

Fakta : she doesn’t know him

2. Subjunctive dengan menggunakan as if/ as thought

S+V1+as if/as thought+S+V2

Ex I

They act as if they are supporter

Fakta : they aren’t supporter

Ex II

She looks at me as thought she knew me

Fakta : she doesn’t know me

3. Subjunctive dengan menggunakan If Only

If Only+S+V2

Ex I

If Only she understood me

Fakta : she doesn’t understand me

Ex II

If only you worked well

Fakta : you don’t work well

4. Subjunctive dengan menggunakan would rather

I would rather+S+V2

Ex I

I would rather you weren’t silent

Fakta : you aren’t silent

Ex II

I would rather he said about the truth

Fakta : she doesn’t say the truth

B.  Subjunctive Past merupakan sebuah kalimat pengandaian yang tidak sesuai dengan fakta & mengacu pada masa lalu :

1. Past Subjunctive menggunakan wish

S+Wish+(That)+S+Had+V3

Ex

I wish I had gone for holiday

Fakta : I didn’t go for holiday

2 Past Subjunctive menggunakan as if/as thought

S+V2+As If/As Thought+S+Had+V3

Ex I

He said as thought he had gotten the job

Fakta : he didn’t get the job

Ex II

She did as if she had finished it well

Fakta ; he didn’t finish it well

3. Past Subjunctive menggunakan If only

If Only+S+Had+V3

Ex

If Only I had done my job

Fakta : I didn’t do my job

4. Past Subjunctive menggunakan would rather

I Would Rather+S+had+V3

Ex I

I would rather she had loved me

Fakta: she didn’t love me

Ex II

I would rather you talked to me

Fakta : you didn’t talk to me
